People Who Don't Like Static Gather Here 👇

I will tell you the reasons why you might dislike Static Apnea that you might not expect, and tips to make Static Apnea easier.

I will tell you the reasons why you might dislike Static Apnea that you might not expect, and tips to make Static Apnea easier.

Why is Static Apnea actually more uncomfortable than Dynamic Apnea for some people? 🤔

Let me tell a story first. Before, I could hold Static for a decent time because I trained Static quite often. But after training only Dynamic, I didn’t train Static, until my Static time was almost equal to Dynamic 😅. The question arose: Why? 🤔

I sat down to organize my thoughts on what makes Static more uncomfortable for me than Dynamic, even though the times are almost equal to STA. And STA has less movement. CO2 can be ruled out because Static has less movement, so CO2 must be less. But why uncomfortable so fast? Then I remembered when I could hold Static long, I tried Lung Packing or packing more air into lungs. More air should mean holding longer, right? But it turned out I held much less, almost half, because Contractions came faster and more uncomfortable. So I thought, maybe Static is uncomfortable because I’m not used to the tight feeling of air in lungs. Because in Dynamic, I feel more comfortable as water pressure compresses air in lungs smaller.

So I tested this in a recent Static competition. From training where I could hold only about 3:30-3:50 minutes. On the actual day, since I didn’t train Static at all 😂, I couldn’t fix this in time. So I used the method of breathing not fully, probably about 80-90% of my lung capacity. Result appeared much more comfortable, and I held 4:37 minutes.

✨Conclusion is I am not used to air being tight in lungs, causing discomfort and intolerance. Which many people might face the same problem. To test, try Static breathing not too tight, 80-90%, and see if you hold longer.

Knowing the problem, how to fix it? Because if breathing 100% full lungs, surely can hold longer. I consulted my Static Coach. He recommended doing Full Lung Stretching. It will reduce discomfort! I will try training and if it works, I will share the method.

Of course, this is not the only reason making Static hard for many. There are many other reasons. I listed them roughly with solutions.

  1. Static has longer Struggled Phase than Dynamic. Simply put, must endure discomfort longer, maybe almost double.

    • Fix by training more CO2 Tolerance, try doing Static more often. Many Static athletes use a technique called Over breathing, breathing more than normal in safe amounts, delaying Struggled Phase. For beginners, not recommended doing alone! Consult an Instructor.
  2. Mental aspect. Some people can’t stay still, need something to do 😂.

    • Fix using Mental Technique. During easy phase, try thinking randomly, daydreaming. During Struggled Phase or discomfort, focus on Contractions happening, try making Contractions smaller.
  3. Discomfort from full lungs 🫁.

    • Fix by doing Full Lung Stretching. Training to stretch chest and diaphragm while breathing full lungs. To get used to air tight in lungs. Helps reduce discomfort while holding and helps hold longer.

Finally, hope everyone tries training. Try not to focus on numbers. So you can enjoy training and do it long term. Personally, I want to train very often But not just because I want good numbers or stats. Just training with friends, finding something to eat after training without guilt 😂 (Truth I didn’t want to tell 😅). This is what makes me happy with training. Stats are by-products 😂. And hope this info is useful for everyone. If you like, please Like and Share 😊.
